Crescent City Jazz Festival

Crescent City Jazz Festival

The Crescent City Jazz Festival is designed to be about making music and about music education. Both outstanding university and high school jazz ensembles will find this festival an inspiring event. Mary Jo Papich, past-president of the Jazz Education Network was instrumental in developing the format for this festival.

Held in the birthplace of jazz, the Crescent City Jazz Festival puts young jazz musicians in close contact with the finest clinicians and performers in the world. Ensembles each have 30 minutes on stage, followed immediately by a 30-minute clinic with one or more of the festival clinicians. Ensembles also have the opportunity to perform for the public in New Orleans.

In addition to their performances, The Preservation Hall Jazz Band will treat students to a special concert. Groups will also enjoy a Dinner Cruise on the Steamboat Natchez, with live jazz. The ensembles are housed at the Hilton New Orleans/St. Charles Avenue Hotel.
