Pitch Perfect: Aca-Divas

This special event for freshman and sophomore women provides the satisfaction of rehearsing and performing new repertoire under the direction of a dynamic, inspiring university clinician. The primary goal is to challenge the singers to stretch their technical and interpretive abilities in a positive environment where the focus is on the enjoyment of making music together. The intent is to offer a special experience for young ladies making the transition from middle school to high school, many of whom are having to “start over” to attain varsity status and
region choir membership after having excelled in junior high.

  • Meeting fellow singers from multiple area high schools

Inclusions and Fees and Procedures

  • $25 fee includes:
    • Music packet, pencil
    • Water for morning & afternoon breaks plus lunch
    • Snacks for morning & afternoon breaks
  • T Shirts (optional, not a requirement for festival participation)
    • Custom Aca Divas design
    • Ordered at the time of registration
    • Cost $15

Procedures

  • Students are encouraged to wear their school’s choir t shirt to the event
  • Those purchasing Aca Diva T’s will be given time to change before the ending concert
  • Students are asked to bring their own sack lunch, labeled with voice part, school and name
  • Lunch will be on campus to facilitate mixing and mingling

Clinicians


Dr. Carolyn Cruse is Associate Director of Choral Activities and Associate Professor of Music Education at Texas Tech University, where she conducts the Women’s Chorale and teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in choral music education.

The TTU Women’s Chorale was invited to perform for SWACDA in 2012. Dr. Cruse has served as a clinician/conductor and festival adjudicator throughout Texas and in Colorado, Delaware, Florida, New Mexico, Illinois, and Michigan.

She is a founding member of mirabai, a professional-level women’s choral ensemble dedicated to enhancing artistic expectations of women’s choral singing.

Prior to her appointment at Texas Tech, Dr. Cruse taught middle and high school choral music in Rich-ardson and Plano ISD’s. A native of the Houston area and a product of choral music education in Texas, Dr. Cruse is passionate about shaping and influencing lives through choral music.
