Scotland’s rugged beauty and timeless traditions offer an unbeatable combination for the traveler eager to be surrounded by awe-inspiring scenery and buildings of historic significance.  Stirling Castle, one of the largest and most important castles in Scotland, both historically and architecturally, dates from the early 12th century and was the childhood home of Mary Queen of Scots.  In Edinburgh, you will see Stirling Castle, Edinburgh Castle, Greyfriars Kirk with the famous “Greyfriar’s Bobby” the Royal Mile and Holyrood Palace as you enjoy scenic vistas and become immersed in the long history of the city.  Scotland is synonymous with bagpipes.  Tour participants will have the opportunity to hear a performance and learn more about the history of the bagpipes and how the instrument produces sounds.  Performance opportunities include St. Giles Cathedral, St. Mary Cathedral, or the Great Hall at Edinburgh Castle.

The welcoming locals and picturesque landscapes of the “Emerald Isle,” are sure to delight students and adults alike. In this land of bogs and mountains, pristine rivers and lakes, the extraordinarily dramatic Cliffs of Moher highlight a country rich in natural beauty. History comes to life in this “land of saints and scholars,” for Ireland boasts more Nobel Prize winners for literature than any other country in the world. Dublin highlights include Dublin Castle, dating to the 13th century. A trip to the University of Dublin Trinity College provides a view of the magnificent Book of Kells, illuminated illustrations of the Christian Gospels dating from 800AD. Performance opportunities are offered in such historic and acoustically outstanding venues as the imposing St. Patrick’s Cathedral, founded in 1191, Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin, or in Galway Cathedral. Instrumental groups often perform at Dublin’s Artane School of Music, where the band has been in existence since 1872.
